For two weeks in Dennis O'laughlin's
Commercial Art program during my junior year of high school I sat methodically, four hours a day, stippling dots on a piece of illustration board and nearly lost my mind. Everyone in the class was to create a value study with dots of another classmates' face. I will never forget Shawn White. I am now an expert in the details of his face. It stands to me as a reference for the potential obsessive nature of a work of art.
