The Eleflate: Inflatable Bag Sculpture

Feast your eyes on the Eleflate, a larger than life, but yet lighter than air, full-grown inflatable elephant. First born as a mere plastic bag, this magnificently unique creature was first spotted in New York City in Greenwich Village this past May at the Parsons School of Design. Enjoy the power of plastic! Video filmed by Jacqui Molendyke.

This sculpture has been a fascinating introduction for into into both multi-dimensional sculpture and DIY inflatables. The Ele-flate is made entirely out of semi-transparent painting tarp fused together with an iron and wax paper, all inflated by an 8″ x 8″ box fan. Yep, that’s it! Truely a testiment to the power of the DIY culture. I hope to be able to do more with this type of work in the future, so be on the lookout for the rest of the inflatable Animal Kingdom.
