Before I chose to become a graphic designer, I was a fine artist for five years. For many different reasons, I transitioned into a field that I was more comfortable in but I have never lost my desire to stay connected to the art world. Although I never had a solo exhibition, I have always wanted to contribute to one in some way. In 2010, while working for
karlssonwilker inc. I took on the task of creating the identity and exhibition brochure for the
Marc Brandenburg: Version solo exhibition as part of the
Off/Site series headed by the
Studio Museum in Harlem and the
Goethe Institute. For the show
Marc created many inverted silkscreened drawings which glowed in the dark under UV light. The brochure I created also glowed under UV, so that it could be read in the dark next to the drawings. Four unique brochures were created, each with a different perforated replication of one of his drawings at actual size. He's is also a super nice guy and the Studio museum takes the cake as my favorite client to date. Art direction: Jan Wilker.
